North Carolina driver charged with DWI in fatal wrong-way crash

Police say a young North Carolina man will face charges following a deadly car accident which the young man allegedly caused. He was reportedly driving the wrong way while fleeing from police when he collided head-on with a pickup truck. The 20-year-old man has been charged with DWI and driving after drinking while underage.

According to police testimony the young man was first spotted by a Greensboro police officer after he turned onto a street and began driving the wrong way. The officer says he turned on his sirens in an attempt to get the young man to pull over. Instead the driver allegedly sped away.

Police quickly gave up chasing the young man because they were worried that it might be too dangerous for other drivers. The fatal car accident occurred only moments later.

Two men in the truck, including the driver, were killed in the accident. A second passenger in the truck was treated for injuries at a local hospital. The 20-year-old defendant has reportedly been treated for broken bones. The passenger in his car was also treated for injuries.

Details are very limited at this point. It is unclear why the young man allegedly fled police. Also unknown is whether the young man had a BAC that would be considered legally drunk for an adult of drinking age in North Carolina. Because the man was allegedly drinking underage it would be illegal for him to drive with any amount of alcohol in his system.

However it is clear at this point that two people have tragically died and a young North Carolina man faces serious charges. We will post updates as news becomes available.
