Drunk driver rolls SUV four times

"These are six innocent children," says highway patrol officer Joshua Wupperfeld after a 31-year-old woman - who faces felony drinking and driving - rolled her SUV four times with her six children in the vehicle.

If you drink and drive with a child in the car (children being classified as under the age of 16 under North Carolina DWI law) you will face Level One or Level Two DWI charges. Level One is the most serious offense in North Carolina.

As Abby Sewell reports for the Los Angeles Times, Officer Wupperfeld says, "They [the children] were harmed because of somebody's selfish mistake."

The accused drunk driver's two-year-old son had to have his foot amputated after the wreck, according to Sewell, and the rest of the children had injuries ranging from minor scrapes and bruises to major head trauma.
