Man charged with DWI and hit-and-run

As the Charlotte Observer reports, a man in an SUV slammed into another vehicle, causing that vehicle to hit a tree, killing the driver and injuring a passenger. After the wreck, the man in the SUV "regained control" and took off, leaving the scene.

The man has been charged with felony DWI.

It also turns out that the man accused of drunk driving has a prior history of DWI, which raises the stakes for him.

He was arrested and convicted of DWI in 2010, according to the Charlotte Observer. Later on that year, he was implicated in another DWI and hit-and-run case that couldn't be proven because there was no conclusive evidence that he was driving the vehicle.

The most recent wreck that claimed the life of a 23 year old happened on Interstate 77. The man struck the vehicle; in turn, that vehicle struck a tree.
