Gang fight results in seven girls facing criminal assault charges

Several middle schools students are facing serious charges for a fight that occurred on school grounds. Although fights are rather normal everyday occurrences in many schools, this particular incident could result in serious consequences for those involved. Young people make mistakes all the time, but sometimes the charges may be extreme for the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Seven teenage girls will have juvenile petitions delivered to their parents in connection with an alleged fight at a middle school last week. New Hanover County Sheriff's Office investigators believe the fight to be gang related and say that all seven girls involved in the fight will be charged with simple assault. Three of these girls will also be facing second-degree felony kidnapping charges.

The school district is working with the Gang Task Force from the Sheriff's Office on the investigation and report that the students involved in the incident have received administrative discipline by the school. Most school district takes fights on school grounds very seriously and when there is the added element of gang violence involved, the charges can be escalated to include even more serious repercussions for those involved.

There are numerous ways today's youth can get into legal trouble, and if your child is facing possible criminal charges an experienced juvenile criminal defense attorney can help you understand what your family is up against and how to effectively respond to the charges. We all know that young people do not always consider the consequences of their actions; however the consequences of a felony conviction on your child's record can have severe long-term consequences for his or her future.
