The situation: Drug charges dropped against reality star friend

The cast members of "Jersey Shore" are probably more familiar with police officers than most residents of North Carolina. Their televised antics have made them very visible personalities, and even their friends have enjoyed fame on some level. This kind of visibility may end up drawing attention to them in situations when they may have otherwise gone unnoticed.

One of the things that people in the public eye understand is what an impact a felony can have on their reputation and career. Many of them understand how important it is to challenge charges, such as drug possession, so that they can protect their future.

Recently, a friend of "Jersey Shore" star Mike Sorrentino (also called "The Situation") was arrested in front of the house where the show is filmed. Jonathan Manfre was reportedly approached by an off-duty police officer outside the house. The officer searched the 33-year-old friend of the star and found him to be in possession of anesthetic ketamine, which is a powerful drug that is used as a horse tranquilizer. He was charged with felony drug possession.

Manfre worked with an attorney to challenge the arrest, and claimed that there was no proof that the officer had received consent to search Manfre. The questionable circumstances surrounding the arrest may have led to a plea bargain that he accepted.

According to reports, the "Jersey Shore" friend agreed to plead guilty to a lesser charge of disorderly person's offense. The penalty for this charge was a small fine of $125. If the plea bargain had not been offered, Manfre was looking at serious penalties and a felony on his record.

This is a great example of how helpful it can be to speak with an attorney when a person is facing drug charges. Being convicted of a felony can have a seriously damaging effect on a person's career, reputation and criminal record. A defense attorney who understands can help a person challenge the charges and work to have them reduced or dismissed.
