Motorcycle accident injuries and deaths are prevalent

Riding a motorcycle can be a great way to have fun in North Carolina. Unfortunately, it can also be extremely dangerous, as other motorists often fail to properly recognize and react to nearby motorcyclists. When a motorist fails to yield to a motorcyclist or remains unaware of motorcyclists around them, this can result in a motorcycle accident. The results of a motorcycle accident can be tragic, leaving unsuspecting bike riders seriously injured or dead.

It is important to be aware of just how prevalent motorcycle accidents have become. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, nearly 5,000 Americans were killed in motorcycle wrecks in 2012. This is a more than seven percent increase compared to 2010.

It only takes the blink of an eye for another's negligence to leave a motorcyclist with severe, life-altering injuries. Victims may be left with a permanent disability, disfigurement and life-long pain. Making matters worse, these individuals are often left with drastic medical expenses and a fear of climbing back on their bike.

Fortunately, one step towards holding negligent drivers accountable is to take legal action that can help the injured motorcyclist, or their family should the motorcyclist die, recoup their losses. A North Carolina attorney may be able to help victims go through an accident investigation and apply the law in as favorable a way as possible. Hopefully then, a victim will be able to seek the compensation they need to recover medical costs, lost wages and other damages. Doing so could be vital in helping a person injured in a motorcycle accident get back on their feet and back on their bike.
