North Carolina motorcycle accident leaves 1 dead

Though North Carolina's weather may be cooling slightly, many are still holding on to the last remnants of warmth. This means that motorcyclists continue to take to the streets to travel to work or school, or just to unwind after a difficult day or week at work. In any case, it has become a sad reality that those who ride a motorcycle are often at risk of being involved in a serious accident, by no fault of their own.

One of these accidents occurred recently and left a 22-year-old man dead. Authorities say a 65-year-old woman's failure to yield to the motorcycle while attempting a left turn caused the accident. The motorcyclist was rushed to the hospital, but he later died. The woman has since been criminally charged with one count of misdemeanor death by vehicle. However, authorities continue to investigate the crash.

A motorcycle accident like this can leave a family devastated. They might struggle knowing that they will never again be able to hear their loved one's voice or see their smile ever again. While this is certainly emotionally crushing, it is by no means the only type of harm caused. Surviving family members might also suffer significant financial losses in the form of medical expenses, funeral costs, and lost wages.

While criminal charges might help a surviving family feel as if justice has been served, they do nothing to help them financially. Therefore, in order to recoup financial losses, it often becomes necessary to file a civil lawsuit. By showing negligence and causation, a surviving family may be able to recover compensation to help them not only find solid financial footing, but also comfort and closure. However, the process to reach such a conclusion is often fraught with legal difficulties. Therefore, it might be in a surviving family's best interest to speak with an experienced North Carolina accident attorney who can assist them in innumerable ways.
