Organization helps riders injured in motorcycle accidents

A North Carolina organization that helps people who have been injured in a motorcycle accident helped a man in another state get back on his bike. The man suffered serious brain and collarbone injuries, and was hesitant to ride his motorcycle again until he joined the group, called the Bikers for Bikers Foundation.

The 15th anniversary of the man’s motorcycle accident recently passed. It was July 1998 when he was riding on some back roads with friends. A teenage driver attempting a left turn drove into his lane, crumpling his bicycle and fracturing his skull in 10 places.

He was so badly injured that emergency responders initially thought he had not survived the crash, his wife recalled. Surgeons put titanium plates in his skull. The man survived, but deals with pain, hearing loss and neurological problems to this day.

Though he rebuilt his motorcycle, he was nervous about riding again for many years. Eventually, he was able to take short trips, but remained reluctant.

Then his wife joined the Bikers for Bikers Foundation, an organization that was founded by a North Carolina man. The group provides financial and emotional support for motorcycle accident victims and their families. The man eventually joined his wife at meetings and going on rides with other members.

The group rides have helped him enjoy riding again. His wife said being involved in Bikers for Bikers have helped him “come a long way.” His friends honored him on the 15th anniversary of his accident by naming him road captain.

Besides physical injury, it is understandable that a motorcycle collision could cause psychological or emotional harm as well. This can have a serious impact on the victim’s quality of life, something that the driver who caused the accident could be liable for. Contact a motorcycle accident attorney for help after a crash.
